Comparing Water Purification Systems. In the side by side comparisons below we have narrowed the choices down to the most popular systems. Get a quick overview of how the Pure Water Branddistillation system compares to other system on the market like reverse osmosis and filtration.
|
REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEMS | Pure Water BrandDISTILLATION SYSTEMS |
The Process: Water is forced under pressure through a synthetic, semi-permeable membrane. The water that passes through the membrane goes into a storage tank (usually plastic or rubber). Most of the water goes down the drain with the contaminants that were removed. |
The Process: Heat is added to water, causing it to evaporate, thus leaving the contaminants behind. The steam is then captured and cooled back down into high purity distilled water. It is then stored in a stainless steel container. |
The Effectiveness: In theory, the membrane, because of its extremely small pore-size prevents micro-organisms and chemical contaminates from passing through the membrane. In practice, however, the contaminants build-up, clog and damage the membrane. Bacteria grow through the membrane and make holes it, so the quality of water produced by reverse osmosis degrades over time. This means that the quality of the water is not consistent, and the customer has little peace of mind. |
The Effectiveness: The boiling action kills bacteria and other micro-organisms, and contaminants are left behind in the boiling chamber. The effectiveness of distillation is over 99+% (99.99% removal has been achieved even on ocean water--over 35,000 P.P.M). The quality of the distilled water is not affected by the level of source water contamination, water temperature or pressure. The quality of the distilled water remains consistent over the life of the unit! Peace of mind is excellent! |

WATER FILTERS | Pure Water BrandDISTILLATION SYSTEMS |
The Process: Water is passed through a filter to remove certain contaminants. Most filters use activated carbon (carbon which has been treated by high heat in the absence of oxygen) to absorb some organic and inorganic contaminants. Adsorption occurs by the strong molecular attraction that carbon in the filter has for some of the contaminants often found in water. |
The Process: Heat is added to water, causing it to evaporate, thus leaving the contaminants behind. The steam is then captured and cooled back down into high purity distilled water. It is then stored in a stainless steel container. |
The Effectiveness: When brand new, a carbon filter will do a fairly good job of removing certain organic contaminants, but it will do very little (if anything) to remove other contaminants in the water such as biological, toxic metals or radioactive. There are a number of factors which can adversely affect their effectiveness.
